Pianist Lars Jansson drinks deeply from the well of Bill Evans, even dedicating one of the originals compositions here to him. He’s in trio format with Thomas Fonnesbaek/b and Paul Svanberg/dr and mixes ideas and moods with aplomb. Svanberg’s ride cymbal coaxes along the lively “Just This” and pushes the post bop “Bohusian” with the team in a boppy mood for “Safe Trip.” Fonnesbaek brings a rich cadence to “Mustapha” and digs into a funky mood for a grooving “Pure Sensation.” All along, Jansson is richly lyrical, as on the richly toned “Receiving,” gentle on “No Purpose” and graciously melodic for “To Have or To Be.” Rich pastels and watercolors for enjoyment.
