Classical nylon stringed guitarist Yishai Fisher teams up with steel stringer Jake Hertzog for what they subtitle on this album “a portrait of the world in nylon and string.” This four suite collection takes you on a sonic geographic trek through “Forests,” “The Arctic,” “The Oceans” and “The Desert” with each song giving musical journeys.
“Endless Trees” includes spacious interplay while “Tides” has harplike pairings. Rich dancing in unison takes place on a bluesy “Cold Life” and folksy musings are captured on “The Great White Space” and the softly strummed “Ghost of the Mine.” Intricate lines are created on a dramatic “Dream Catcher” and the guitar is used for percussion both on body and strings for “Leaves in the Dark.” Conversant interplay all throughout, and with each song clocking in at around 3 minutes, no one ever overstays the welcome. Sublime.
