Consisting of Elie Dufour/p, Marc Michel/dr and Yan Phayphet/b the EYM Trio takes its name from the first letter of each artist, and its musical direction from the flowing graces of Bill Evans. Soft strummed piano strings lead the way on the graceful “Borders” with Dufour delivering a soft nocturn on “Emile,” creating rich spaces on “Fragolino” and dancing over the teamwork of bass and drums on the bouncing “Paradiso Perduto.” Things get even more interesting with Pat Methenh-inspired guitarist Gilad Hekselman joining in for a cheery “I’m Travelling Alone” and elegiac “Still Standing.” Some South Asian vocals from Mirande Shah team with the chiming Dufour on “Left Alone” and give exotic moods to “Vakratunda.” Wonderful fragrances from various worlds meld together here.
