Austin-based Ray Bonneville keeps it simple with shadows and colors on this album with Richie Lawrence/ep, Andre Bohren/dr and some cameo guests as he sings and plays guitars in dark sepia tones. Bonneville’s voice is filled with oak tones, and comes off like a ramblin’ man on restless material such as “Next Card to Fall” while getting into a New Orleans funk as he growls out “It’ll Make a Hole In You.” The spartan dark blue support creates ominous atmospheres on “Codeine” along with dark guitar picks on “The Day They Let Me Out” and with some soulful keyboards, the group hits the soul on “South of the Blues” and a sleek “Until Such a Day.” Nails bitten while you wait.
