With street smart voice, a searing guitar and faded jeans, Billy Hector cruises through a collection of original blues rockers with a rotating rhythm team, keyboardist David Nunez and a blistering horn section of Steve Jankowski/tp-vtb, Tom La Bella/as-ts and John Martin/bs. The team gets Memphis swampy on the funky rockers such as “Wizard of Babylon” and sound like a southern Tower of Power on the razor sharp title track. Guitar riffs that hint at ZZ Top and Steve Miller fly off the guitar necks on “Moonlight in Her Eyes” while the strings chicka boom to Nunez’s B3 on the smoky “Busy Man.” Chunky rock gives a bumpy ride to “Jolene” and Hector is stark on the stomping “Hit the Road.” This guy sings and plays like an eternal 5 o’clock shadow.
