Pete McCann: Pay For It On The Other Side

Guitarist Pete McCann plays it electrical and acoustic on his guitars with a post bopping team of John O’Gallagher/as, Henry Hey/key-acc-p, Matt Clohesy/b and Mark Ferber/dr on a collection of originals. The front line of McCann with the bright sounding alto get tricky and intricate on pieces like the title track, the pulsating”Is April Oka?” and elliptical “Polygons.” McCann creates some edgy atmospheres with pedals along with Hey on the tensiole  and misty “Floor Three” wich gives Clohesy a chance to dig a deep pulse, while in contrast the team gets funky on the warm “Conventional Wisdom.” Some lovely acoustic moments take place as Ferber’s brushes coax out a direction on the shadowy “Cookout” and mystical moods are palpable during “Nikhil.” Strings that bend and wind.
