Bassist Frank Wagner leads a fresh and flexible post-bop trio through seven of his own compositions. His chops are never in doubt, as he gives his fingers a workout on “Memory” and bows with the best on the luminous “Mirror.” Pianist Marco DeGennaro and drummer David Meade show muscle on the Monkishly aggressive title track, while they swing with aplomb on the happy “Solution” and deliver a bluesy bounce during “Switch Partners.” Meade’s brushes and soft on the waltz “Progress Notes” and the leader creates a Sunday Morning feel with nimble work on “One For Charlie.” Winning ways!
