Trumpeter Michael Morreale delivers a two disc tribute to “the good period” of Miles Davis, focusing mostly on his pre-plugged in period. He teams with Tony Regusus/key-p, Bill Moring/b and Tim Horner/dr-perc to display his interpretations of pieces like a sleek “No Blues,” soft “I Thought About You” and Harmon muted “All of You.” The team gets loose and modal on “Pinocchio” and asserts itself with some electricity on “Spanish Key,” with Morreale adding his own keyboards on a clever medley of “Bitches Brew/Flamenco Sketches.” A nice reflection of masterpieces.
