Edgar Steinitz: Roots Unknown

Edgar Steinitz explores The Great Jewish Songbook as leads an ecumenical team of Bonnie Birch/acc, Jeff Busch/perc, Julain Smedley/vi-vla, Waye Porter/dr, David Friesen/b and Jay Thomas/fh-fh-ts-tp through some shvinging material. Steinitz plays clarinet, bass clarinet and soprano sax, mixing klezmer sounds and harmonies with jazz sensibilities. Tribe classics such as “To Life” and “Sim Shalom” include festive moods with funky extra grooves, making the circle dance go beyond the normal grapevine. Steinitz’ clarinet is cantoral during the “Jewish Jazz Jam Suite” and “Perseverence” with some percussion set to tap into your inner Sephardic. The shtetl rocks with strumming strings on “Yiddish Blues” and vintage Lower East Side vaudeville directs you to the  Borscht Belt on “Sephardic Blues and Into the shadow of Lodz.” Steinitz and company show you can still trust your car to the band that wears the star!
