Vocalist Jackie Ryan is just one of the ladies that you just know is fun to be around. I’ve seen her perform, interviewed her, and have all of her material-you want her at your party! She has an infectious joy in all she does, and because she’s a singer, you can feel that part of life in every song. She’s teamed up with some of the best LA Cats around: Gerald Clayton/key, John Clayton/b, Gilbert Castellanos/tp, Graham Dechter/g, Obed Calvaire/dr and Rickey Woodard/sax. Together Ryan and company go from rollicking jazz tunes like “Comin’ Home Baby” to bare your soul vulnerability on “I Loves You Porgy.” Her voice and attitude have a dna-imbedded passion, which works like few others, especially on latin material such as “La Puerta” and “The Gypsy in My Soul” and she can shift gears from this atmosphere and take you right to the church on time as she does intro and verse to a mesmerizing “Accentuate the Positive.” A couple clever modern tunes like Mark Winkler’s “Rip Van Winkle” make the material feel fresh as well. If you can find me a better singer that’s out there , let me know, and I’ll give you 5 reasons why you’re wrong. She’s IT!!!
