Uh, can you say “THE SEVENTIES”?
Is anyone able to have a mellower Christmas than James Taylor? Yes, he does Beta Dog versions of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and “Silent Night.” As you’d expect, he gets a bit “social message” ish on songs like “River” and “Some Children See Him.” I’m still trying to figure out how “Here Comes The Sun” fits in, unless it’s the Son of God, but you never know with Sweet Baby James. This is for those who do Christmas barefoot in jeans.
If you loved Grease, what’s the next logical step? Why having the two lovers do a handful of standard Yuletide pieces, of course. Actually, this comes off surprisingly well, as “Winter Wonderland,” “The Christmas Waltz” and “Silent Night” sound as sincere as can be. I’m not quite sure where Travolta was when he sang “I’ll Be Home For Christmas,” but that’s another story. The unfamiliar “I Think You Might Like It” adds a contemporary feel, but the voices themselves serve the season well. Christmas is the word!
