Various genres cross on these two releases.
Rough toned vocalist Malford Milligan co-leads with boogie-ing guitarist Tyrone Vaughn along with a rotating band of Chris Maresh-Jeff Hayes/b, Brannen Temple-Kenneth Furr/dr and Jay Stiles-Michael Ramos/key. Voices and guitars wail on pieces like “Soul Satisfaction” and the team sounds urgent during “Here I Am” while some vintage blues-boogie gets laid down low on “Driving You” and the gritty “Dangerous Eyes.” A pair of songs from concerts has the audience stomping on “Palace of the King” and What Passes For Love.” Low ceilinged juke joints.
The team Vector Families consists of Anthony Cox/b-cel, Dean Granros/g, Dave King/dr-perc and Brandon Wozniak/sax for a collection of assertive originals as well as a couple frisky cover. Of the latter, “Satin Doll” includes exciting percussion and Wozniak’s frisky soprano sax, while Ornette Coleman’s “Dee Dee” is filled with stadium rock guitar and drum work. The free from “10,000 Year Old Rotary Club” mixes edgy guitar and free form rock for a quarter of an hour and hip vibes are in place for “African Dictaphone.” Enthusiasm oozes out.
