Warm toned trumpeter Ted Chubb teams up with Bruce Williams/as, Seth Johnson/g, Oscar Perez/p-key, Tim DiCarlo/b and Jerome Jennings/dr for some impressive and muscular post bop. The two horns flex their muscles on the uptempo title track and dig in deep on “Little Sid.”Chubb displays a glowing sound on a supple read of “ East of the Sun” and uses his mute well on on “ Tuesday.” Johnson is fluid during his spotlight of “My Ideal” and teams up with Perez’s Rhodes for an enjoyably funky read of “Adam’s Apple.” The rhythm team displays an earthy swagger as both Chubb and Williams stretch out like Monday’s laundry on the bluesy “Space” and even Willie Nelson gets a nod, as his “Everywhere I Go” is warm and friendly, fitting in well with the bopping side of town. Clever and enjoyable.
