Vocalist Nick Moran has a rich soulful voice, sometimes veering towards the Motown feel of Stevie Wonder, and even giving a dash of Jamie Cullum on this mix of smoky Memphis stews. With a swirling B3 in the background, Moran delivers some rockabilly on “Baby Gets Home Tomorrow” while is able to stomp on “Lay Your Money Down” or slide over the chunky chords on “Did It Ever Get So Bad.” Some guitar twanging blues sizzles on “Something New” and there’s some deep pockets on the funky “Better Let It Be” while some snappy gospel has Moran rolling on “Easier Time.” A mix of vintage STAX sounds with horns and low ceilinged juke jointing make this one a blue plate special.
