Tenor saxist Mark Hanslip forms a duo with drummer Ed Gauden for a collection of conversant musical spark. The team shows it can get playful as Gauden is nimble with the cymbals on”Pheasants” while he rumbles in the jungle with Hanslip’s thick horn on “Up in Smoke.” The team shows it knows how to bop as they bear down on “Blue” but get frisky as Hanslip fluffs and flutters to Gauden’s cataclysms on 698” and the sticks flail on “Jets.” A bit of Jackson Pollock on the sounds.
