Hiroe Sekine: One World One Sun

Pianist Hiroe Sekine does a successful job in taking various sounds from all over the world and bringing them into the jazz family. The core team of Peter Erskine/dr and Michael Valerio/b team up with a Pier One Imports collection of guests, with Eric Rigler supplying Uilleann  Pipes and Charlie Bisharet bringing his violin for a Gaellic jig with jazz on “La Greine Sunny Day, while a festive Iberian dance is supplied by Kazuhiko/ss and Antonio de Jerez/palms on a festive “Brillo de Sol.” Western harmonics and Southern Asia sitar and percussion create a sonic curry on “Soory Kaa Prakaasha,” and a mystical caravan pulsates in the Sahara with Bisharet’s violin and Dimitris Mahils’ oud on the drifting “Alshams.” Trips to Japan, Peru, Indonesia and the Pacific Rim are also included, making this a rich collection of exotic sounds that invite you across the world and into a jazz venue.
