Eric Bibb is one of the few that get the blues down right. Having a spiritual upbringing, his messages always carry messages that feel like Old Testament Prophets or New Testament evangelists, all with the support of the hues from his guitar, banjo and support from Michael Jerome Browne/g-mand-banj, JJ Miltau/harp, Olle Linder/dr and supporting vocals from Bid Daddy Wilson and Ulrika Bibb. Miltau sighs along with Bibb on the thoughtful “Refugee Moan” and the banjo p icking takes you to a rural back porch as Bibb tells a story on “We Had T Move.” A haunting read of Bob Dylan’s “ Masters Of War” is as foreboding a tale of woe, with Bibb’s vocals stating but not overstating the issue at hand, while his sincerity is palpable on a vintage rural read of “This Land Is Your Land.” Guitar picking fans will have nothing to complain about on the swampy “Postcard From Booker” and title track, as Bibb and company keep it simple, clear and convincing. No posing here; just real life from a messenger with a message.
