One of the most important composers of Cumberland Gap tales, Guy Clark gave us material that has been covered from everyone ranging to Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson. Like all good songs, a story needs to be told, and Clark is a master. This 2 disc set includes a series of demo tracks like”The Last Hobo and Just to Watch Mria Dance’ as well as a few concert songs including the singalong “The Cape” and the classic heart wrenching autobiography “ L.A. Freeway.” The rest of the material has his leathered voice telling folksy and relaxed thoughts of a Polaroid camera (“My Favorite Picture of You” ) a trip to a pawn shop (“The Guitar” and his thoughts of the artistic process (“Maybe I Can Pain Over That.” Most of the time, you feel like you’re sitting along next to him in a truck on the way to market on a dusty road, listening to him spin a yarn or two. A ride worth taking!
