Glenn Zaleski: Fellowship

Pianist Glenn Zaleski leads a highly intuitive and cooperating team of Dezron Douglas/b and Craig Weinrib/dr through a mix of originals and standards. Of the covers, bass and piano do some wonderful counter conversations and opposing pulses on the tensile “Central Park West” while the bopper “Is That So?” has Weinrib tapping with brushes. The title track has an attractive spaciousness with the gears gently shifting lie sands in the Sahara, while “Out Front” opens with Douglas’ lyrical bass and slides into a pulsating and shadowy “Homestead.” The solos, even by the leader, never stand out, and always seem like a part of a mosaic, sometimes dark, other times bright, as the three snap, crackle and pop on ”P.S” and Zaleski brings his inner Bud Powell to the table for “Lifetime.” A chord of three strands is not easily broken, as the good book says.
