Guitarist Jesse Lewis teams up with The Awakening Orchestra conducted by Kyle Saulnier for an evocative concert that mixes orchestration, guitars and moods. The journey includes reflective strums and horns opening things up on “Looking Glass” before percussion starts things rumbling on “Build!” There is a plethora of rich and dreamy moments on “Atticus” and “The Adventures of Dirt McGillicuddy” while Jonathan Powell/tp, Nadje Noordhuis/fh and Lewis supply well timed solos.
Things get a bit dramatic with Vito Chiavuzzo’s alto on “The Robert Frost Experiment” and a chaotic crescendo climaxes “ Turbulence”, making the journey complete with a sublime “The Pasture (You Come Too)” to close the evening of involving sounds and moods. Creative, complex and attractive.
