Jason Vieaux & Julien Labro: Infusion

Music of the Americas is delivered by classical guitarist Jason Vieux and accordionist-bandoneonist Julien Labro on a collection of modern compositions. The team mixes folk moods and classical impulses on Leo Bouwer’s “Tres Danzas Concertantes” while Pat Metheny’s “Antonia” delivers sweet guitar and sighing keys. A four part “Suite Retratos” includes bassist Peter Dominguez and drummer Jamey Haddad for a bohemian “Pixinguinh,” and dreamy “Ernesto Nazareth” and a festive “Chiquinha Gonzaga.” Pastor Piazzolla’s “Escualo” has Labro oozing old world sentiments, while the fun and carefree read of “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” closes the session with a touch of pop. Moods from the plaza, the old country and today’s iphone are all in the mix here.
