Hammond B3 meister Mike LeDonne forms The Groover Quartet of Eric Alexander/ts, Peter Bernstein/g and Joe Farnsworth/dr to deliver some meat and potatoes grooves. He pulls the plug on an oozy “At Last” and kicks into overdrive on “Fly Little Bird Fly.” Alexander has fun with the doo wopper “La La Means I Live You” and Farnsworth rides the cymbals on “A Lot Of Livin’ To Do.” Bernstein is fluid throughout, particularly on the title track, and when Vincent Herring chimes in with his alto for “Gravy Blues” and “Sweet Papa Lou” you won’t need to ask for seconds, as the plate is overflowing with protein.
