Pianist Craig Hartley brings forth a trio with Carlo De Rosa/b and Jeremy Clemons/dr to bring new ideas into some jazz standards, and then some. He shows his touch on the piano on his lonely and lyrical “Just Wait” with the rest of material having him share the space with his teammates. Clemons does some clever dashes on a multi-mooded “Caravan” and De Rosa bows and picks his way through a lovely read of Paul McCartney’s “Junk.” Rich in ideas and delivery is a mix of Bach and Miles Davis as “Prelude No. 2 weaves into “ Solar” like a Raphael tapestry, with a similar idea done with John Lennon’s “Imagine” (which I’m glad did not include the depressing lyrics) oozing into “Peace Piece.” Rich ideas and arrangements make this a thoughtful delivery.
