KING CRIMSON’S SUBJECTS…Stick Men:  Prog Noir

Bassist Tony Levin and drummer Pat Mastelotto dutifully served in the prog rock band King Crimson for over twenty years, and their latest band continues the sophisticated and moody sounds along with Markus Reuter/g to round out the trio.

The songs are deeply complex, shadowy but not unaccessible, with pieces like “Leonardo” and “Plutonium” mixing guitars with clever drum patterns and taking the listener on a winding journey. The songs never get self indulgent, a major trap for this genre, as “Mantra” and the title track are tight little units that mix hard hitting grooves with compact and cogent solos and improvisations. This trio handily carries the torch that Robert Fripp passed on to them. They’re coming to LA Jan 22-25 at the Canyon Club and Baked Potato, see keep an eye out!
