Drummer Jochen Rueckert creates a sublime atmosphere with his quartet of Mark Turner/ts, Mike Moreno/g and Orlando Le Fleming on a collection of originals. Rueckert shows deft dexterity as he sets moods with a rumbling drum on the moody “Parasitosis,” busy sticks on the boppy “Purring Excellence” and soft brush work on “5-Hydroxytryptoamine.” Turner’s tenor plays it close to the chest, sleekly surfing over Moreno and the rhythm on “Stretch Mark” and going delicate on “Aussenposition.” Moreno’s cool tone works well on the suave “The Alarmists” and teams up well with Le Fleming to create some nice grooves throughout. Pastels with rich strokes.
