Pianist Luis Perdomo goes solo on this lyrical and flowing album that mixes original themes with some richly interpreted covers. His heart is in the Latin Quarter, with his reading of “Si Te Contrara” and “Mambo Mongo” filled with percolated rumblings and pulses. He does a relaxed and reflectively joyful “Monk’s Dream” and his “Body and Soul” is con alma. He has a dash of Bill Evans on the pensive “Thinking of You” and “The Boundary Law,” never rushing and letting the notes do the work, while his handful of “Montage” pieces interspersed serve as chiming direction signs. Patient and warmly comfortable.
