Here’s one for the books-jazz meeting the land of the Lewis and Clark trail! Hey, it works!
Drummer Arthur Vint rounds up Ian Stapp/b, Jon Cowherd/p, Tony Scherr/b, Andrew Halchak/bcl, Rich Perry/ts, Yvonnik Prene/harm and Blanca gCecilia Gonzalez/vio through a collection of tunes inspired by the land of the Western American Landscape. Some of the tunes, such as “Radford” and Neil Young’s “There’s A World” mix rollicking (and raucous) guitar in a rock format, while even some Afro Cuban gets into the mix on “Kindling.” A dash of Rawhide keeps them doggies moving on “Through the Badlands” and Prene’s harp lets the pardners ride into the sunset on “Heyoka.” Perry’s tenor sings by the campfire on the lonesome prairie during “Sagebrush” and “LKP” and the band builds up drama while goin’ courtin’ on “Devil’s Dictionary.” A real hootenanny!
