Alto saxist Gavin Templeton leads a quartet of Joshua White/p, Richard Giddens/b and Gene Coye/dr through a Decalogue of ten pieces that mix quick snippets with completed compositions. His alto has a rich and strong tone, and it sighs on the rubato “Contract” while showing some elliptical angles as the rhythm team delivers an upbeat “Strong Ties.” White’s piano gently glides into a modal “If Only” while the quickie “Waiting Room” has him with Gidden’s bass on an in and out. Giddens teams up with the leader as they droop and swoop on “Tether” and the edgy “Fortresses” gives everyone a chance to stretch out a bit, while Coye gets percussive on “The Program.” Multiple hues on this kaleidoscope of colors with sound.
