It seems that guitarist Romero Lubambo always gets on my Ringer of the Week list, either for his solo albums or on one of his many collaborations. This long term trio of the Brazilian with Duduka da Fonseca/dr and Nilson Matta/b is another winning combination of sensuality, swing and energy.
On classical guitar, Lubambo works on his own luscious and seductive compositions such as “Luisa” and gets soft and misty during Matta’s “Aguas Brasileiras” and while sparks fly on the kinetic “Sweeping the chimney.” On electric guitar, Lubamba delivers a slithering samba as Da Fonseca brushes with deftness on “Outono” and the three create supple ripples on “Flying Over Rio.” Sparks fly on Baden Powell’s “Samba Triste” while Lubambo’s fingers do a table dance on “For Donato.” You won’t get tired of this treasure. Do they ever come to the Best Coast?
