If you like your vocals delivered in Rex Harrison charm, then Richard Shelton’s your gent. He’s got a disarming dash about himself as he teams up with an impressive lineup that includes Gregg Field/dr, Mike Lang/p, Chuck Berghofer/b and a mix and match horn team with Brian Scanlon, Eric Marientahal , Wayne Bergeron and Alan Kaplan.
His selection of material is as impeccable as his wardrobe, and his style is shark skin sharp. He shows cleverness on slowing down Tom Jones’ “It’s Not Unusual” and taking the disco hit “Dec ’63 (Oh, What A Night)”to tender traps, while displaying charm on a clever title track. He sounds convincing and debonair on ”Young At Heart” and “The Touch of Your Lips” while breathing fresh air into a soft swing during “And I Love Her.” He sounds like he knows a bit more than he’s telling you, which makes you listen even harder. Gotta like this bloke!
