Quique Sinesi brings h is 7 string guitar to team up with pianist Pablo Ziegler and guest Walter Castro’s bandoneon for a mix of modern and classic tangos. Of the more traditional groove, you’ll want to grab a partner and stomp your feet to Ziegler’s prancing “Once Again, Milonga” and a duet reding of Carlos Gardel’s “Soledad.” For more modern ears, some pieces by Nuevo Tango legend Astor Piazzolla veer in and out like Fiats on roundabouts on “Escualo” and “Fracanapa” and a mix of jazz fusion and South America takes place as Sinesi’s guitar does some John McLaughlin frenetic fun on “Mahavishnu Tango.” The mix of acoustic intimacy keeps the mood folksy while the stylings drive the mood into the 21 st Century.
