Dudley Taft: Skin and Bones

If you want the boogie and blues on your Fender, Dudley Taft is going to be on your “A” list. He plays his six stringer with a gritty feel, teaming up here with John Kessler/b, Jason Patterson, Reese Wynans-Eric Robert/org and backup vocals by Rachel Williams and Ashley Christensen. Hey can rock the boogie as on the title track and “Space Cake” and also gives a hint of Hendrix spaceyness on “Coming Home” and “Lonesome Memphis Blues.” Delta  mooed pieces like “ Leland Mississippi Blues” add a dash of Muddy Waters and the rhythm team shuffles on  “Without You.” Taft’s voice is earthy and earnest, and the energy jumps off of his fingers. A great album for fans of gunslingers of the Wild West.
