Hanna Burge’ is in strong voice as she confidently works her way through a variety of moods and styles on this well paced album. She teams up with Robi Botos/key, Paco Luviano/b, Mark Kelso/dr and guests including Hendrik Muerkens/harm for some assertive stylings. Botos and Luviano create a rich Latin groove for Burge’ on “De Repente” and some rocking movements pop up on “Black Velvet.” Her light vibrato shines as she glows with Botos’ piano on “Serenity” while she dances over the extra percussion provided by Jalidan Ruiz on Horace Silver’s bopping “Nica’s Dream.” She sounds confident on the forward driving “Be My Love” and her own sensuous “Sunshine Samba,” both spiced up by Muerkins’ rich harmonica. This lady can ride a wave!
