Becky Kilgore and Nicki Parrott: Two Songbirds of a Feather

Here’s a charmer of a vocal disc. Sweethearts of the jazz rodeo Becky Kilgore and Nicki Parrot form a rich bond of sound as there coalesce and solo on this album with rich and swinging support by Mike Renzi/p, Harry Allen/ts and Chuch Redd/dr. Kilgore and Parrott both double on guitar and bass respectively here, and they do wonders with joyful ditties such as “Two Little Girls From Little Rock” and the debut of the title track. A slowed down to 16 rpm and calmed mood of “Blue Moon” is a stunner of crystalline charm, while the wry read of “A Woman’s  Prerogative” is a hoot. Allen is the perfect accompanist, doing rich obbligatos throughout, while the rhythm team is as deft and subtle as on the cute “El Cajon” and bopping “Them There Eyes.” The ladies close with a thick as lava collection of voice on “When I Grow Too Old To Dream” making this combination of voices complete in art and yet with a perfect addition of fun and frolic.
