HEY, MON! Raging Fyah: Destiny,  Judgement Day

Here are a couple albums by the reggae outfit Raging Fyah. The team consists of Courtland “Gizmo” White/g, Anthony Watson/dr, Kumar Bent/voc-g, Delroy “Pele” Hamilton/b, Majhlon Moving/eng-voc, and Demar Gayle/key. There’s also a punchy horn team that pops uip now and then to add to the smoky atmosphere. Both albums are strong and consistent, leaving little to choose between.

Destiny includes some wonderful vocals by Sherieta Lewis and Shenae Write on the Stax-feeling “Africa” while the horns give a rich texture to “Mankind” and “Barrier.” Bent’s vocals are earthy on the R&B ish “Nah Look Back” and the soulful “Step Outta Babylon” and each piece has a no frills lilt.

Judgement Day has a bit extra techno effects on a few of the vocal pieces such as “Far Away and  “Ganja” and a churchy feel is definitely present on the title track. Some nice guitar work is on “Music Isn’t Biased” and “Karma” and once again Bent delivers the heartfelt lyrics with conviction, with a tone and delivery similar to Toots HIbbert. If the sounds of Jamaica are blowing on shore, here’s a band to sail along with.
