Robert Sabin: Humanity Part II

Bassist Robert Sabin brings together a rich palatte of sounds with a small big band which includes 2 saxes and five brass along with a pianoless rhythm section. Moody and thoughtful horns create a hint of Gil Evans on the galloping gait of “Scarecrow” while the saxes sigh to Jesse Lewis’ guitar on “Through a Glass Darkly.” A melancholy fog of reeds and brass floats softly on the title track and dark puffy clouds hover around Jason Rigby’s tenor sax on “Tenebre.” Sabin keeps the rhythm team pulsating and flexible, taking a spotlight on the silky “Leviathan”  that trudges with sepia tones. Rich harmonies and reflective moods abound.
