Bob Malone: Mojo Deluxe

Bob Malone plays piano and B3 among other keyboards here, and has a rough and ready voice that perfectly fits this bluesy rock session. With Stan Behrens on harmonica, he can take a band through some boogie woogie glues on “Certain Distance” and “Toxic Love” while the band rollics with Tommy Williams’ guitar and Bob DeMarco with Marty Rifkin doing a pair of slide guitar workouts on “Chinese Algebra.” The tonk is honkying on “Looking for the Blues” and early vintage Tom Waits attitude creeps up on “Paris.” Some hints of gospel take you to church on “Watching Over Me” and then you head off to the saloon on “Hard Times.” One for the road!
