Free 4 Arts: Six Months & Ten Drops

The light and loose team of Tomasz Dabrowzki/tp, Sven Dam Meinild/bare, Jacob Anderjkov/p and Kasper Torn/dr work without a bass on this collection of free form originals. The horns are able to create choral unities when they work together as on the title track, as Anderjkov’s piano provides thoughtful support. On more assertive material such as “I Made It To Oradea” and “Dan,” Dabrowzki’s clear horn pops and snaps around Meinild’s popping baritone sax, while Torn changes directions from funky to rock to outside and inside jazz. The horns can create eerie and misty moods as well, and with Torn’s work on the cymbals, an eerie atmosphere can pop up as on the full mooned “Flip and Reverse” and the band gets quite frisky with Anderjkov trying to keep the air balloon from flying away on “Heavy Ah.” Fun left of center post bop.
