Drummer Reggie Quinerly leads an exciing band with Warren Wolf/vib, Yotam Silberstein/g, Christian Sands/p and Alan Hampton/b through a classy collection of mostly originals. He shows class by giving sands the spotlight for the entire “Kunst Uberlebt” and letting him and Silberstein do some work on “Nimzo Indian.” Quinerly shows his firm grip on the boogalooing take of “My Blue Heaven” and gets funky on “The Child of 808.” Lots of kinetic energy abounds with drums and vibes bouncing around, particularly on “Tavares” while the whole band bops with the best of them on “Lester Grant.” Excellent mainstream outing.
