Subtitled “When Grappelli Meets Latin America,” this album features the lyrical violin of Federico Britos in a tribute of source to the famed Hot Club of France. The team of Jorge Garcia/p, Felix Gomez/p, Edwin Bonilla/perc, Renyel Rivero/b and Carlomagno Araya/dr create a mix of gypsy and salsa as they tackle pieces like “The Sheik of Araby” and “Djangology” with an irresistible latin flavor. A take of “Dark Eyes” includes Giovanni Hidalgo’s sizzling congas as well, while “Honeysuckle Rose” even includes the famous Hot Club intro with some extra picante. Cecile McLorin Salvant joins in for two readings of “La Vie en Rose,” one in English and the other in French, and both take you to other parts of the world. This is an infectiously created work of genius. If only it were edible!
