Here’s a lovely duet between vocalist Joanna Wallfisch and keyboardist Dan Tepfer. The tunes are mostly originals, and Tepfer plays it smart by keeping the support varied in sounds and background, coming back and forth like a gentle current. Wallfisch’s voice is like a glowing crescent moon along with Tepfer’s mellotron on “satellite” and moody like a walk in the forest on “Time Doesn’t Play Fair” and the title track with Tepfer’s Wurlitzer. The mix of her on piano with Tepfer’s pump organ forms a sepia-toned mood on “Brighton Beach” while her read of “Wild is the Wind’ draws you in with the singer’s intimate yet penetrating voice, delectable like fresh Reese’s Pieces. The mix of the cool chocolate and pungent peanut butter forms a delightful collection of bite sized bon mots. They are playing at the Blue Whale March 8. Check it out!
