Lauren Lee and Charley Sabatino: Velocity Duo-Dichotomies

At least the pair wrote on the liner notes to “listen, ponder and draw your own conclusions.” What you have here is vocalist Lauren Lee and Charley Sabatio on bass doing some free improvisations based on visualized words. Each song has split titles, supposedly the words they were visualizing. What you get sonically is a lady with an impeccably pure and rich voice and a flexible bassist that deliver “songs” that at times mix dreamy and clear toned voice with support on “Elation/Woe” to babblings of a 8 month old infant on “Skeptical/ Naïve.” Vocalizations that could be defined as “scat” or simply uttering non-sensical verbage is in abundance, as on”Insecurity and Substance” while an impersonation of a cat having its tale stepped on is evident on “Uncomfortable/Placid.” Definitely music, and without a net.
