Here’s a fun one for guitar fans, as Harley Card brings forth a wide selection of sounds and styles of guitar playing. Teamed up with David French/ts-bcl, Matt Newton/p-key, Jon Maharai-Dan Fortin/b and Fabio Ragnelli-Ethan Ardelli/dr,card dispalyes h is composing and performing skills on ten originals.
There is some plaintive strumming with tender support on bass clarinet on”Crossing The Berg” and gentle acoustic work on ”The Way” and “Helecopters and Holograms.” He’s got a post bop sound that works well with a lively drum canter on “Get There” and a cool dry martini tone that works well with French’s tenor sax on “Flash Card Etude No. 1” and “The Brain Chain.” His dainty touch on “Sophomore” mixes electric with acoustic, featuring some nice work by Newton as well. Cohesive and clever, he keeps you listening.
