Ah! This is why I love the jazz trio! Bassist Mark Wade brings together Tim Harrison/p and Scott Neumann/dr for a lyrical set of (mostly) originals that focus on interplay, lyricism and symbiosis. Harrison’s fingers are buoyant on pieces like “Jump For Joy” and crystalline on the clever read of “If I Only Had A Brain” while Wade shows his debt to Scott La Faro on the gallant “The Prisoner” and the glowing “Valley And Stream.” He leads the charge on the exciting “Tossed” and takes the band throw a kind of peg-legged tango on the clever “Singsong.” All througout the session you get a feel of a wholeness to each piece, not a hint of “mow, blow and go.” These guys are listening, and so should you!
