Ah! Nice and earthy blues rock that sounds like it was grilled at The Rendevous in Memphis. Fender Stat picker and gritty vocalist Brad Absher takes you back (or is it forward) to the Stax sound, where the Hammond is humming, the horns are blowing and the rhythm is stomping like Wilson Pickett. The basic team of Larry Fulcher/b, barry Seelen/B3 and Mike Patton/dr get down and dirty on material such as “Rather Be Blind” and do some wonderful gospel with a testifying “Jesus On the Mainline.” They also get sweaty on the thick “Trouble,” but when they bring in the horns of Andy Saad/ts and Anthony Terry/bari, the room gets real sweaty as on the striding “I Need A Drink” and “Wanna Be Your Man.” Absher throws in some hip Cropper licks on “Miss Your Water” and his voice all throughout sounds like he’s been on the CB all day in his truck. This guy is as thick as Porky’s BBQ sauce. Gotta love it!
