The Blues Magoos: Psychedelic Resurrection

Yes! The Blues Magoos-the personification of all of the joys of Psychedelic rock that came out in the late 60s. Three of the original guys are back: Peppy Castro/g, Ralph Scala/key and Geoff Daking/dr bring on Mike Ciliberto/g and Peter Stuart Kohlman/b for a reunion of sorts, and these guys sound pretty darned good. The first thing you’ll notice is that the music they played back then, yes it was wild and loud, but there were also some vocal harmonies that kept the music lyrical and melodious, something missing in the present day of one vocalist groaning over life. Mixed in with hard hitting rockers like “There’s A Chance We Can Make It” and the rock steady “Gotta Get Away” is their big hit “We Ain’t Got Nothin’ Yet” which still sounds ominously hip. The closing “Tobacco Road” still sounds wonderfully forlorn as well. Anyone gonna take any bets of todays music 40 years later?
