Richard Baratta: Looking Back

Drummer and leader Richard Baratta takes on Baby Boomer rock hits of the 60s and 70s and gives them a Latin goose on this new release. Teamed with Bill O’Connell/p-key, Vincent Herring/as, Paul Bollenback/g, Michael Goetz/g and PauL Rossman/cong-perc, he has O’Connell give a sweet samba sound to “Blowin’ In The Wind” and Bollenback tapping into his inner Wes Montgomery on a firey “Whole Lotta Love” that has Herring putting a pedal to the heavy metal, following the leaders snappy sticks, while “California Dreamin’” shuffles along. Baratta gives a New Orleans feel to “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” and his brushes waft on the intro to “Hey Jude” before the c horus of vocals by Carroll Scott and Janine Schwarz close out in a raucous climax. Wide wale chords!
