Guitarist Brent Laidler drinks deeply from the well of Grant Green on this hipster of a session of originals with Mark Buselli/tp-fh, Ned Boyd/as-fl, Jamie Newman/org, Richard Floyd/dr and Scott Pazara. He’s front and classy cooker of “Bop Like” while subtle during the Jobim-ish “Riffy Business” that have the horns caressing the bossa’d beat. Boyd’s alto flexes the biceps on the muscular boogalooer “#5 Someday Way” and bops till he drops on “Gemani”. The reggae’d “Petite Parasol” is a cutie, while the waltzing “Without A Tres” is ballet graceful on its toes. Tender takes.
