It sounds like Benjie Porecki grew up in the black church because playing piano, organ and pads, Benjie Porecki leads a trio of Mark Prince/dr and Michael Bowie/b that is heavy on soul and gospel. Yes, there are hints of Bill Evans gentleness with Bowie on his “All That Matters” and some clever mix of keys and ivories on the pretty “Passage of Time”. He rollicks with the congregation on Sam Cooke’s “Bring It On Home”, gets R&B-ish on Hall & Oats’ “She’s Gone” and on his own goes to Sunday School on the grace filled “Just When I Needed You” and “Wise Decisions”. This guy’s got, as we used to say, “the FEELIN’”.
