Hubby Jeff Furgo is on the piano with wife Jeanette holding down the vocals, and you can by the interplay on each song on this release that this is a couple that is comfortable with each other. The bring Aaron Irwinsky/ss-ts, Joseph Carpenter/dr and Henry Beal/b into the fold, and take on pieces that may be tunes you grew up with , but these arrangements show that songs, as with people, can mature with age as well.
For instance, the teenie bopper theme “Will You Love Me Tomorrow” takes on a much more mature nuance as there is no whining from the world wise Jeanette, gliding through Carpenter’s cymbals, and she’s clear, confident and clever around Jeff’s piano and Irwinsky’s late night tenor on “Hand In My Pocket”. The wide eyed innocence of Sam Cooke’s “Wonderful World” is more inviting and less vulnerable than expected, while Jeanette dresses herself well in blue around Beal’s bass and some hip keyboards on a sophisticated “Wicked Game”.
The backup team shows it can hold it’s own, as the man of the house delves deeply into “The Sounds Of Silence”, while Jeanette blows a few smoke rings when she returns on a late night read of “Light My Fire” and bedroom eyes’d read of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You”. Jazz’d pop for the thoughtful.
